2010 Goals

1. Go to Spain and study Spanish this summer.

2. Improve balancing yoga poses- I focused on standing ones last year and will continue to work on them and will add working on arm balances this year as well.

3. Pay off all but $2k of my credit card debts.

4. Knit another sweater (any size will do).

5. Read at least eight books. God that sounds lame.

6. Push back against post-college weight gain.

End of Year Assessment

My goals for 2009, created in January:
1. Take riding lessons in June – Didn’t get to it, due to spending all my money on the wedding.

2. Climb at a 5.11b level – basically stopped going to the gym in September, when I went back to work.

3. Push back against post-college weight gain – See number 2. I actually did a really great job on this through August, but have gained some weight back in the last few months of the year.

4. Knit (and finish) an adult-sized sweater – Didn’t finish an adult-sized one, but finished a baby sweater! Finished right before the new year, right under the wire.

5. Get married!

6. Hike at Mt. Tam

7. Improve my one-legged, standing yoga poses – I did improve! This will carry over into next year.

8. Add $5,000 to my emergency fund – Not only have I not added anything to the ER fund this year, this was actually a *negative* achievement, since I cleaned out 70% of the fund to pay for the wedding. But, I have been adding to it the past few months.

9. Read more books – Nope.

Mid-year Assessment

My goals for 2009, created in January:
1. Take riding lessons in June – Didn’t get to it. Probably won’t, due to spending all my money on the wedding.

2. Climb at a 5.11b level – Haven’t climbed in ages. Could still happen, with more self-discipline.

3. Push back against post-college weight gain – In progress.

4. Knit (and finish) an adult-sized sweater – Haven’t started. Haven’t been into the knitting lately, for some reason.

5. Get married!

6. Hike at Mt. Tam

7. Improve my one-legged, standing yoga poses – This is actually happening! I think bootcamp is really helping, as I noticed I felt a lot stronger in this past month of my yoga practice. Will continue to practice consistently.

I have a lot to do in the last half of 2009!

A Pretty Big Step, Considering it’s Florida

“Miami Judge Rules Against Gay Adoption Ban

A judge on Tuesday ruled that a strict Florida law that blocks gay people from adopting children is unconstitutional, declaring there was no legal or scientific reason for sexual orientation alone to prohibit anyone from adopting.”

This is amazing. Well, it really shouldn’t be amazing, it should be common sense, but then, Florida’s not exactly a hotbed of gay and lesbian inclusiveness. The case will probably be appealed to the state’s Supreme Court, so keep your fingers crossed this ruling will be upheld.

The rest of the article is here, although I have to admit it’s kind of an annoying read because it includes numerous quotes from people for the ban, who spout nonsense like that this is a case of “classic judicial activism.” God, I hate George W. Bush just for coining that stupid phrase. I love how judges’ jobs are to make rulings, but somehow if it’s not a conservative ruling it’s goddam “judicial activism.”
